The Surgeries feature has been created in order for you to list Councillor Surgeries (if applicable) in a standardised feature and display them in an orderly way on the website.
NOTE: A Venue is required when adding a Surgery, so if you do not already have the Venue for the Surgery listed in your WP Admin > Venues list, then please add this first.
The following information should be set in order to get the best results on your website:
| Title | This should be set to either a topical title name (if this is appropriate), or a generic “Councillor Surgery with…” type title. No other details should be included in the Title, as the additional information is covered in the rest of the fields below. |
| Content | The Block Editor content should be used to specify the intention of the Surgery, for example, if the Srugery is being held for a particular reason, or on a particular topic, details should be given here. |
| Starts | The Start Date/Time should be specified here |
| Ends | The End Date/Time should be specified here. Although it is unlikely that a Councillor Surgery would last over multiple days, this has been included for versatility reasons, in the rare event that it would be appropriate to set a different End Date, but generally you would set the Start and End Dates the same, nad only change the times. |
| Member Attending | Here you can specify from a dropdown list of your currently active Council Members, which Member will be available for discussions with residents. If there are multiple Members attending, there should be a separate Surgery posted for each attending Member. This is done so that if a resident is looking to speak to a specific Member, they can see this easily on the site. |
| Venue | If the Venue for the Surgery has not already been added to your list of Venues, then please add it prior to setting this (if you forget to do this, you can leave it as TBC and save/publish the Surgery, then go to WP Admin > Venues to add the Venue and then return to the Surgery and set the Venue). |
| Surgery Documents | Supplementary Documents can be uploaded and added to the Srugery, this can be anything from an Itinerary List or Running Order document, to more topical supporting documents that relate to a specific discussion topic for the Surgery. |
The Layouts allows you to set the look/design of the pages displaying lists & details of your posts, and can be set in WP Admin > Surgeries > Settings.
The Default Single Layout is a simple sidebar-style layout, with the Title and Content on the left of the page, with any Documents for the Surgery displayed in a table below this, In the sidebar to the right, the Date/Time, Location and Attending Member details, with a link to their page on the website. The Members Featured Image will be displaed alongside the Surgery listing.
The Default Layout for Surgeries is a relatively simple list of the Member Image, Title, Date/Time and an excerpt of the Content. The Featured image will be the Attending Members Featured Image, and the Members Name will be displaed in the listing also.
